God gave the nation of Israel various sabbath days and holy days to honour and observe under the Old Covenant. There are 7 specific feast days (as laid out in Leviticus 23) that occurred annually that they were to keep. These feast days (like national holidays) each had specific reasons and purposes behind them tied specifically to the nation of Israel and their history with the LORD their God. Each feast day had various ordinances, practices, and rituals that accompanied them. However, ultimately, each of these feast days also were prophetic pictures and foreshadows, containing object lessons, that all pointed forward to the work that Christ would do to save and judge man. The in-depth study of these feasts really opens our eyes to the great wisdom and knowledge of our God and his masterful plan from the beginning to the end.
